Recently, the Chinese Research Society for Qinghai-Tibet Plateau announced the results of the 14th "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Young Scientists Award", and Professor Li Guoqiang from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, was honored with this award. The award not only recognizes Professor Li Guoqiang's scientific research work in recent years but also enhances the influence of Lanzhou University's geoscience research in the academic community.
The "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Young Scientists Award" was established by the Chinese Research Society for Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in 1995. It is a nationally approved scientific and technological award established by social forces and is aimed at recognizing Chinese young scientific researchers who have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological work in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with progressive thinking and good academic ethics. The award is selected every two years, with no more than ten recipients each time.
Professor Li Guoqiang is mainly engaged in the research of luminescence dating and paleoenvironmental changes in the field of physical geography. In recent years, he has systematically studied the climate-hydrological changes and driving mechanisms in the northern and northwestern arid regions of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau during the late Quaternary period. He has published over 50 SCI papers in international academic journals, including 28 papers (including 19 first-zone papers) as the first or corresponding author in international mainstream geoscience journals such as npj Climate and Atmospheric Science, Earth and Planetary Science Letters, Quaternary Science Reviews. His published papers have been cited 1,040 times by other SCI papers. In addition, he concurrently serves as a member of four professional committees, including the Chinese Geographical Society's Geochronology Technique Committee, and an editorial board member of seven domestic and international academic journals. He has been selected as one of the first batch of "Cuiying Scholars" and "Excellent Youth Support Plan" at Lanzhou University, as well as "Longyuan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent" by the Organization Department of the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee, the outstanding young talent fund of Gansu Province, and "Longyuan Youth Talent".
